Follow your dreams

Yes, please do. Don’t you dare not to.

We don’t live in an ideal world. We’re not even approaching an ideal world. We couldn’t be further from it. But it is what we made it. So there.

We can try to have ideal lives. Don’t laugh. Hear me out.

We are all born without asking for it, presumably. No one said it was going to be easy. If we’re lucky we have a family that’ll help us along for as long as we need them. But what we ultimately make of it is entirely up to us.

We’re the lucky ones, of course. There are billions of people who’ll never even get a chance. The don’t know that they may have one and wouldn’t consider to take one or make one. You and I are therefore the lucky ones. We get to choose.

And in my humble opinion we owe it not only ourselves but also everyone, who doesn’t get to choose, to make the best life we can live.

Following your dreams means pursuing happiness and being happy means you’re making this world a better place in whatever small way. You’re not just making it better for yourself and those around you, but in a tiny way the effects will ripple further out and will leave marks elsewhere.

Consider the simplest thing: a smile. It is the same everywhere around the world. If I smile at someone they’re quite likely to smile back. If someone smiles at me I am just as likely to smile in response as well. Thus smiles travel from person to person, making those ripples like a stone thrown into a body of water.

The simple act of smiling improves everyone’s mood and they become a little happier, if even for only a few moments. But the seed is planted and you can curse me as the eternal optimist, I will not cease to believe and say so.

You go and follow your dreams and see what happens. As long as you’re not stupid about it or entirely too reckless, the results should mostly be positive. You’ll stumble. You’ll fall. You’ll cry. And you’ll get up and continue. You have to.

It won’t be easy. Not that. Dreams are not meant to be fulfilled easily. They’re called dreams for a reason. But that doesn’t mean they’re not achievable.

Start small, grow big. And never give up.

Go and pick the life that you need. The one you want may not be the one you need, but the one you need, will be the one to make you happy. If you know Granny Weatherwax, you may understand what I’m trying to say.

I just figured out that the life I currently have is not really the one I want, but it is what I need at this moment in time. I chose it to enable me to do certain things. But it will come to an end, sooner than I may have guessed, which is fine and I’ll go and get another one. I am happy, though, irritatingly enough very happy.

This right here is me following my dreams.

And it gives me no end of joy to see others I care about work on their dreams. Or anybody for that matter.

Believe me, pursuing your dreams is one way of making this world a better place. It doesn’t take much and it doesn’t need to be a big dream (it might as well, though). We should all be allowed to do this instead of getting sucked into monetary worries that will drive your spirit into despair.

Don’t let anybody stand in your way, especially not yourself.

Have a little faith and go right on ahead.
