The last video I posted, or shared, was a commencement address by Neil Gaiman.
Meet his wife, Amanda Palmer.
I think, I might’ve, maybe, a little bit, almost cried by the end of her talk. It’s just over half an hour long and unless you’re a writer, someone who wants to be a writer or any other kind of artist, you may not get much out of watching it.
If you want to know why I am a writer, then watch it.
I don’t often get to feel validated. I take compliments and mumble my thanks blushingly. But her talk made me feel recognized in a way that I’ve not experienced before.
She’s talking about her own experiences, but by extension about everyone else who writes and wishes to call themselves a writer.
I dared to do that a while ago, because that is what I feel like. And it turns out, I’m a published writer, because I put everything out there. Out here for you to read it, whoever you are.
It doesn’t matter that I don’t have a great following, but I know that this will be read by somebody. And every view validates me as much as it surprises me.
The video is worth watching, you may discover a thing or two about what it means to be me.
At the very least you’ll find out, why I keep yelling from up above. Why I keep inviting you in and that I do it with a trepidation that you don’t even see.
You have no idea what it means to me, how much. And I may never be able to truly convey it to you. But that won’t ever stop me from continuing.
Have I told you yet that I can fly?
